Sensei Taka Maeshima

Sensei Takamichi Maeshima started Karate training in 1992 at Temple University. His formal instructor was Master Teruyuki Okazaki, who was a founder of the International Shotokan Karate Federation. After graduating from the University, Sensei Taka joined the ISKF instructor trainee program and became a full- time instructor at the ISKF HQs in Philadelphia. As parallel to these, he competed in various tournaments regionally, nationally, and internationally, and won many titles. After retiring from competition in 2009, his karate training system has changed from sports karate to self defense purpose.

To reach this new vision, he established the Martial Arts International Institute in 2013. He is currently 6th Dan (6th-degree black belt) Shotokan Karate and 2nd Dan (2nd-degree black belt) Kodokan Judo. He is also practices, Okinawan Karate, Shin Do Ryu.
Sensei Taka’s Accomplishments:

  • 2000 – JKA World Tournament in Tokyo Japan. Team Kata 6th place,
  • 2001 – ISKF Pan American Championship in Philadelphia USA. Team Kata 1st place,
  • 2004 – JKA World Tournament in Tokyo Japan. Team Kata 6th place,
  • 2004 – ISKF Pan American Championship in Panama City Panama. The US National Team Member,
  • 2005 – ISKF/US National Tournament in Columbus Ohio. Individual Kata 1st place,
  • 2006 – ISKF/US National Tournament in Anchorage Alaska. Individual Kata 1st place,
  • 2006 – JKA World Tournament in Sydney Australia. Team Kata 6th place,
  • 2008 – ISKF Pan American Championship in Georgetown Guyana. The US National Team Member,
  • 2009 – ISKF World Tournament in Toronto Canada. Individual Kata 2nd place.
